The Runaways dir. Floria Sigismondi — 5.8

I'm a huge Runaways fan, so I was sort of looking forward to watching this. Well, not any more. Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart are ok as Cherie Currie and Joan Jett respectively, but the other band members have almost no lines, and Lita Ford is just a walking wig. Almost no character development takes place, and the early band scenes are pretty ridiculous in terms of reality or shedding any new light on the band or the creative process. Michael Shannon looks a bit like Kim Fowley, but instead of inhabiting Fowley's craziness he goes for a "big performance" and way overshoots the mark. In the end, this is just plain dull, which is criminal in and of itself.
