bb diaries Have to take a moment to say rest in peace to author and musician Jim Carroll, whose book The Basketball Diaries was such a huge influence on me in high school. I saw him speak a few times, cranky, opinionated, excelllent, but not at all the guy I had envisioned on the page. He managed to rise above the horrendous Leo DiCaprio film version of the book, which continues to stand alone. It's #1 on the Amazon chart today. Amazing.
   
swayze Also have to say a few words about Patrick Swayze, whose Road House and Point Break are two of the better examples of pop culture cheese of the eighties, and retain a lot more viewability than a vast majority or films made before and after them. "Can I buy you guys a drink.....guess not."
