Movie Review

My Summer of Love dir. Pawel Pavilkowski — 7.1

A meditation on class disparity, religious fervency, teen angst, manipulation, sex, lesbianism, life in a small town, and the possibly inherent cruelty lurking within teenage girls. It's also larded on with melodramatic excesses, a few ludicrous scenes, and the tendency to make the sex scenes remeniscent of a Duran Duran video. I still think there's a lot to like in this frequently understated portrayal of the extreme lonliness and reality-bending urgency that seems to populate adolescent summers as a matter of course. Both Nathalie Press and Paddy Consindine are excellent in their roles

Actually, now that you mention it…
Let’s test him.”
