Movie Review

I've Loved You So Long dir. Claude Chabrol — 8.7

They don't make movies like this in America. Ever. I can count on nine fingers the number of American movies I can think of with this much honesty. Or willing to spend so much time looking at real emotion, real relationships, the way people tiptoe around one another, the overaching unhappiness we all carry inside of us and spend our lives trying to spend away. A woman is let out of prison 15 years after killing her son and tries to fit back into society by moving in with her sister and her family. That's it. The difficulty of it. No explosions, no nudity, no dumb jokes. No ludicrous soundtrack. An adult movie that looks at difficult issues in an adult way. It's like having cold water poured over you.
