Client 9-The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer dir. Alex Gibney — 7.2
A pretty interesting documentary about the take-down of former NY Governor and Wall Street scourge Eliot Spitzer. It's pretty convincing in its analysis of the big money strings and Republican chicanery behind making sure the story of Spitzer's dalliances were made public though a highly unusual federal court case against an online escort service. But, in the end, as Spitzer himself said, it may have been a sleazy bending of the rules--but it was ultimately his own ridiculous judgment and incredible hubris that brought it on. More convincing is the notion that much of the Wall Street graft and theft that nearly brought down the world economy a year ago was being challenged publicly by only one person in America. And that person is no longer in office.
